2012 Lee Vineyard Pinot Noir, 1.5L
Nose opens with lovely rose petal, plum and briar with sweet cola and nutmeg notes. Succulent dark cherry and plum dominate the palate with layers of cigar tobacco and cardamom. Gorgeous acidity and depth on the palate.
Pairings: Rabbit , Lamb and Select Cheeses.

Considered a quintessential Carneros AVA vineyard site, Lee Vineyard was planted in 1967 by Ira and Shirley Lee. Saintsbury’s relationship with the Lee family formed in 1982 and that relationship was instrumental to the replanting of the vineyard that took place in 1990s and early 2000s with Dijon and Swan clones. Today, we enjoy exclusive access to the grapes from this site that is located on Los Carneros Ave, just 50 meters from our crushpad.

Terroir: Haire clay loam soil; exposure to Petaluma wind gap and San Pablo Bay airstreams creating temperate growing conditions.
An ideal season—no frost, a mild spring and a tranquil fall resulting in very high quality fruit.
Harvest Date: September 17 and 28 & October 5
After night harvesting , the fruit from the Lee Vineyard has a short distance to travel—a quarter mile down the road to Saintsbury . From there, each block remains separate and receives gentle handling starting on the sorting table and to the open top fermenters for 5 day cold soak, 11 day total cuvaison. This is a site that requires cautious and gentle extraction regime for balanced tannins and bright acidity.
Aging: 10 months in 30% new French oak barrels (François Frères and Taransaud)
