2014 Clone 809 Chardonnay
In the late 1920, the Sangiacomo family purchased their first parcel in Somona—planted to fruit trees and then to grapes for winemaking. In 1969, the Sangiacomo’s Green Acres vineyards was partial planted to the original Old Wente clone of Chardonnay. In 1981, Saintsbury partnered with the Sangiacomo family and for 33 years have been receiving fruit from their Green Acres Vineyard.
Appellation: Carneros, Sonoma
Clones: Dijon 809
Terroir: sandy loam soil; bordering the Sonoma Creek on the eastside and Fowler Creek running through the vineyard.
After night harvesting , the fruit from the Green Arces vineyard has a short distance to travel—just a few miles down Highway 121to Saintsbury. From there, the grapes are whole clustered pressed. The wine is barrel fermented with light lees.
Aging: 10 months in 10% new French oak barrels and 20% 1-year old French Oak barrels (François Frères and Taransaud).
