At Saintsbury, we taste through all of our small lot wines each year before we release them. If we taste one that especially stands out as an exceptional wine and a shining example of the new vintage, we give it a special designation. As an homage to our namesake George Saintsbury's famous book, we label it a CELLARBOOK wine. We do not take this declaration lightly and make sure that these are only our best of the best wines for you to enjoy now or after extended cellaring.

Hailing from Coombsville in the Napa Valley, Mary Elke moved to Anderson Valley with her husband and children in 1990 to plant and cultivate the Donnelly Creek Vineyard. Planted primarily to Pinot Noir, with a small amount of Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, Donnelly Creek is perfectly suited for cool climate varieties. It is well known for the protective marine layer that gives way mid-day to sunshine - only to return in the evening.

Appellation: Anderson Valley

Terroir: Located west of Boonville, the 50 acre vineyard sits on cobbly, clay loam soil by the creek bed.

Following heavy rains in February, budbreak began in Anderson Valley in the middle of March. With fully saturated soils and warmer than usual temperatures, the vines brought the 2014 fruit to maturity with great concentration and  ripe tannins.

Harvest: September 18th

After harvest at sunrise, the fruit from Donnelly Creek Vineyard travels to Saintsbury. From there each block remains separate and receives gentle handling from the sorting table to small open-top fermenters for 5 days of cold soak prior to fermentaion. Total cuvaison was 11 days.
