2017 Wentzel Vineyard Pinot Noir
Plum and cherry meld with dried lavender, brown mushroom, and a hint of soil on the nose. Flavors of dark plum, cedar, and fresh tilled earth blend together on the palate with a dark sweetness and long, persistent finish.
VINEYARD: At a roughly 700 foot elevation near Philo, the “Upper Lookout” of the Wentzel Vineyard faces west on a steep slope. The vineyard is farmed organically and planted to three Dijon clones (115, 667, and 777). The intense diurnal temperature shifts of the Anderson Valley climate combined with the hillside location give us naturally low-yields that concentrate the flavors.
Appellation: Anderson Valley
Terroir: Franciscan sandstone mixed with clay loam
WINEMAKING: The fruit arrived in bins at sunrise after a night pick. The three clones were co-fermented in small, open-top fermenters. Total tank-time (cuvaison) was 11 days - the first 5 being a cold soak.
