2018 Catarina Green Acres Chardonnay
VINEYARD
In the late 1920's, the Sangiacomo family purchased their first parcel in Sonoma —originally planted to fruit trees and then to grapes for winemaking. In 1969, the Sangiacomo Green Acres vineyard was partial planted to the original Old Wente clone of Chardonnay. In 1981, Saintsbury partnered with the Sangiacomo family and has since received fruit from their Green Acres Vineyard.
Appellation: Carneros, Sonoma
Clones: “Catarina” Clone 4
Terroir: Haire clay loam soil; bordering the Sonoma Creek on the eastside and Fowler Creek running through the vineyard.
WINEMAKING
After night harvesting, the fruit from the Green Acres vineyard has a short distance to travel—just a few miles down Highway 121 to Saintsbury. From there, the grapes are whole clustered pressed. The wine is barrel fermented with light lees.
