2018 Roberts Road Pinot Noir
Red and black cherry aromas blend with fresh leaves and violets on the nose. High-toned but dense wild berries and nutmeg spice join forest floor and cedar on the palate before a long finish.
Located at the base of Sonoma Mountain, in the northern part of the famed Petaluma Gap appellation, Roberts Road Vineyard has developed some of the most prestigious grapes that the Sangiacomo family cultivates. Bordered by Copeland Creek to the north, the cobblestone soil is naturally perfect for wine grapes. The location has the added benefit of fog covering the vineyard until mid-day, making for a long, gradual growing season. The fruit ripens slowly developing deep flavors and making for rare wines with natural acidity and suppleness.
Appellation: Sonoma Coast
Terroir: The Roberts Road Vineyard sits on well-drained with silty gravel. It has two watersheds, the southern end of Roberts Road Vineyard drains to the San Pablo Bay while the northern section drains to the Russian River.
The fruit arrived in bins at sunrise after a night pick. Each block remained separate from the sorting table through to the small, open-top fermenters. Total tank-time (cuvaison) was 11 days - the first 5 being a cold soak.
